冬至是中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)二十四節(jié)氣(the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms)中的第二十二個(gè)節(jié)氣,英文表達(dá)為Winter Solstice。冬至當(dāng)天,太陽(yáng)幾乎直射南回歸線(Tropic of Capricorn),北半球?qū)⒔?jīng)歷一年中最短的白天和最長(zhǎng)的黑夜。

冬至節(jié)
據(jù)歷史學(xué)者介紹,3000多年前,周朝以“日影”最長(zhǎng)的一天作為新一年的開(kāi)始。從這個(gè)意義上說(shuō),冬至就是曾經(jīng)的年。所以中國(guó)有句古話說(shuō):“冬至大如年”。
As early as Zhou Dynasty, people worshipped the gods on the day of the Winter Solstice, which was also the first day of the new year. The Winter Solstice became a winter festival in Han Dynasty. The celebratory activities were officially organized. On this day, both officials and common people would have a rest.
早在周朝時(shí)期,人們會(huì)在冬至當(dāng)日,也就是當(dāng)時(shí)新年的第一天祭拜神靈。漢朝時(shí),冬至成為了冬天的節(jié)日,朝廷會(huì)舉行正式的慶?;顒?dòng)。這一天,百官和庶民都會(huì)停工歇息。
在隨后的朝代,如唐、宋、元朝,冬至這天要進(jìn)行祭神祭祖。至明清時(shí)期,冬至依舊長(zhǎng)盛不衰,民間又有“肥冬瘦年”之說(shuō),可見(jiàn)這一節(jié)氣的重要。
吃堅(jiān)果
隆冬來(lái)臨,萬(wàn)物運(yùn)轉(zhuǎn)趨于停歇。在此期間,適當(dāng)?shù)爻渣c(diǎn)堅(jiān)果,例如花生、核桃、栗子、榛子和杏仁,對(duì)身體有好處。

吃餃子
“冬至到,吃水餃?!睋?jù)說(shuō),冬至吃水餃的習(xí)俗是為紀(jì)念“醫(yī)圣”張仲景。行醫(yī)途中,他見(jiàn)沿途鄉(xiāng)民饑寒交迫,耳生凍瘡,便用羊肉等材料制成耳朵形狀的“嬌耳”,送給人們驅(qū)寒。這便是“餃子”的由來(lái)。

餛飩
蘇州人習(xí)慣在隆冬時(shí)節(jié)吃餛飩。相傳蘇州百姓把餛飩作為慶祝冬至的食物,是為了紀(jì)念大美人西施。
Local legend has it that on the midwinter feast 2,500 years ago, the King of Wu (one of the states during the Western Zhou Dynasty and the Spring and Autumn Period) was tired of all kinds of costly foods and wanted to eat something different. Then, the beauty Xishi came into the kitchen to make "wontons" for the king. He ate a lot and liked the food very much.
據(jù)傳,在2500年前的吳國(guó)宴席上,吳王厭倦了山珍海味,想換個(gè)口味。美人西施去廚房做了一道叫“餛飩”的菜來(lái)滿足他的愿望。吳王大塊朵頤,很是喜歡這種美食。
湯圓
冬至的湯圓也叫“冬至丸”“冬至團(tuán)”,一家人齊聚吃湯圓,寓意“團(tuán)圓”。在潮汕地區(qū),吃湯圓有“添歲”之意,這就是所說(shuō)的 “冬節(jié)丸,一食就過(guò)年?!?/span>

羊肉粉絲湯
羊肉性溫,味甘,具有溫補(bǔ)氣血的功效,是冬季進(jìn)補(bǔ)的佳品。在寧夏回族自治區(qū)的銀川地區(qū),人們有冬至日喝羊肉粉湯的習(xí)俗。
On that day, it is customary for people there to eat mutton and vermicelli soup and soup dumplings. They give the midwinter soup a strange name: "brain",and share it with their neighbors.
在這天,人們有喝羊肉粉湯、吃湯餃的風(fēng)俗。老百姓給這種冬至喝的湯起了一個(gè)奇怪的名字——“頭腦”,并把它們分給左鄰右舍。
年糕
冬至期間,杭州人有吃年糕的傳統(tǒng),民間也流傳著“冬至吃年糕,年年都長(zhǎng)高”的俗語(yǔ)。古時(shí),在冬至到來(lái)之前,家家戶戶都會(huì)打年糕來(lái)祭祀祖先,或當(dāng)作禮品送給親朋好友。
Today, though fewer families eat home-made rice cakes, people there still buy rice cakes for the Winter Solstice Festival.
如今,盡管少有家庭還會(huì)吃自制的年糕,但人們依然會(huì)買(mǎi)年糕來(lái)慶祝冬至節(jié)氣。
